Our 2019 Modern-day Freestyle inductee has probably spent more time in the air than any other Hall of Famer, ever. With a string of NINE straight X-Games Gold medals in Vert, and a grand total of 14 X-Games Gold all together - this inductee is only one Gold shy from tying Shaun White in the X-Games win column.
We are talking about none other than the British BMX import- Jamie Bestwick!
After falling in love with BMX at 10 years old, Jamie took a huge risk by quitting his Airline engineering job in England to chase the BMX dream here in America. Not only did the risk pay off, but there have been many rewards since.
In 2000, he ended Dave Mirra’s win-streak.
In 2005, Jamie won every single competition he entered!
After winning 10 Dew Tours, he was named their Athlete of the Year in 2006.
Bestwick has even been nominated for an ESPY Award - as Best Male Action Sports Athlete, and in 2014, he won the acclaimed Laureus World Sports Award for Action Sports-Person of the Year - a trophy that he shares with the likes of Shaun White, Bob Burnquist and Kelly Slater.
Still to this day, at 48 years young, Jamie Bestwick remains a podium favorite and gold medal threat in BMX Vert - and he is currently helping coach the British Olympic freestyle team, for when freestyle BMX makes its Olympic debut in Tokyo next year.
As of right now - 2019, Jamie Bestwick can dangle 20 X-games medals around his neck - as he was honored to add a National BMX Hall of Fame induction to his already impressive resume.
