Sycamore BMX track in Simi Valley, CA has been home to many BMX superstars and National Number Ones. And among them all, stands a National No.1 Pro and World Champion with a long and illustrious career. His ABA Pro career tallied up 198 Double-A Pro mains, with 37 wins from his 99 podium finishes. 

It all started in 1981 - for six year old Danny Nelson. Over the next 25 years, he’d grow from a young amateur superstar riding for Robinson Racing, into one of the most popular racers in the circuit - representing GT and Powerlite.  

The BMX World knew that it was a sign of the times, when on the same day in 1993 that Danny Nelson turned Double-A - the young rookie would also win his very first race as a Double-A pro. It was no surprise that he’d earn the 1993 Golden Crank Award for Rookie Pro of the Year. 

Then came 1994 - in his second season as a Pro, Danny would win the IBMXF World Championships, in front of American fans at the legendary Waterford Oaks BMX in Michigan. Being mentored by The Firm’s pro teammates Greg Hill and Gary Ellis, “Thunder Dan” would claw his way up the Pro ranks - finally earning an NBL No.1 Pro title in ‘99, followed by the ABA No.1 Pro plate in 2007, at age 32  … making him one of only five riders in BMX history to have earned the triple-crown of BMX - all three major titles.

Not many BMX pros can say they went out on Top ..but Dan can. With an average career ranking of #6.6 in the ABA, Nelson retired the following year - mid-season, to begin a new life as a business owner. 
The Legend of Thunder Dan has lived on - and his reputation is still talked about today, and lives on with all Simi Valley locals and BMX fans all around the World.
