HOUSTON, Texas – With an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of the athletes and travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority and UCI have mutually agreed to cancel the 2020 UCI BMX World Championships.

The event was originally schedule for May 26-31 at Rockstar Energy Bike Park but was postponed because of the pandemic.

“We were looking forward to hosting the 2020 event, but the ongoing pandemic continues to present health and travel challenges all around the world,’’ Sports Authority CEO Janis Burke said. “We are disappointed, but we are committed to hosting other major BMX events in the future.’’

Despite efforts to come up with an alternative, UCI will not hold a BMX World Championships in 2020. The 2021 World Championships will be held on August 17-22 in Papendal (Netherlands), after the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
