Track Rules

Please follow these track rules as well as BMX Canada Rule and the NSBMX Code of Conduct for the safety and postive atmosphere of all riders, parents and spectators.

  • North Shore BMX race track is operated and maintained by executive board and volunteers of NSBMX
  • The track is open to the public from dawn till dusk which is a RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK except during sanctioned BMX events whereas the BMX Canada memebship provides limited insurance.
  • The track is closed during sanctioned BMX events to non members. Please check track schedule on our website.
  • Please limit use of the track if it is raining or if there is water standing as that will just create a lot of work for the volunteers whom will need to repair it.
  • No modifications of the track without espress understandining and permission of North Shore BMX
  • You NEED a membership to ride at our track during sanctioned BMX events.
  • All riders, parents and spectators must follow NSBMX Code of conduct and BMX Canada Rules to participate at any club event.
  • To race, riders are required to have full face helmets, gloves, closed-toe shoes, long sleeve shirts and pants - elbow and knee/sin pads are strongly recommended
  • The track is ONE-WAY ONLY. Do not ride the track backwards. It is difficult to see over obstacles and DANGEROUS COLLISIONS can and will occur.
  • Always ride in the specified direction
  • DO NOT cut across track or stop on track unless injured
  • DO NOT hang out in the middle of the track
  • Unsportsman-like conduct will not be tolerated. Respect others.
  • No skidding on the track
  • Always enter track at START GATE
  • Keep FINISH AREA clear
  • No motorized vehicles allowed
  • No off leash animals allowed
  • Please throw away trash in trash bins provided
  • Most important rule: Have FUN and ENJOY riding at North Shore BMX track!

Persistent failure to follow NSBMX Track Rules, NSBMX Code of Conduct and BMX Canada Rule could result in a permanent exclusion from the track. We appreciate your cooperation and kind understanding.

30’ feet rule (from the gate down the start hill)

A rider determined by an official to have intentionally impeded the progress of another rider during the first 30 feet of the race may be disqualified from qualification or moved to last place in a main event situation. To facilitate this rule, it is recommended that a clearly visible line extend across the width of the track, placed at a point 30 feet from the starting gate.

(Moving over is not a foul in and of itself. Intentionally moving over and blocking another rider is the foul.)

- basically, once the gate drops, if there is a rider to either side of you, you MUST stay within your lane until you pass the 30' line. If you are in lane 7 and the nearest rider is in lane 4, you are able to move over within the 30', as you are not impeding another rider.

Last straight rule (similar to 30 feet rule)

When on the final straight, a rider determined by an official to have intentionally impeded the progress of another rider may be disqualified from qualification or moved to last place in a main event situation.

(Moving over is not a foul in and of itself. Intentionally moving over and blocking another rider is the foul.)

- basically, coming out of the last corner, maintain your line to the finish!
