2021 COVID-19 Protocols

Rules and guidelines

Arriving at the track:

  • Practice will require registration online prior to session - riders must make themselves aware of this information prior to arriving at the track
  • Riders and volunteers must arrive 15mins prior to their registration time to complete health screening
  • Riders will complete a health screening by the COVID Ambassador
  • Riders must sanitize their hands upon arrival
  • Riders must have helmets and gloves on at all times
  • Riders must maintain physically distancing at all times in the park and while riding
  • Riders are not permitted to share or lend any equipment
  • There will be separate entrances and exits


Practice/Race sessions:

  • Site limits will be observed (maximum 50 people on site) and managed by COVID Ambassador
  • 2m distancing at all times while off track, 3m distancing required while riding on track.
  • No Stopping in groups on the track
  • No gathering at the finish area once lap is completed
  • Riders are required to remain in their staging lines at a safe distance in between practice/race laps
  • No physical contact during races or practice.
  • No equipment to be borrowed or loaned at any time
  • Maximum 4 riders per gate; for Vernon BMX Club members only



  • 2m distancing markings when in line for staging
  • Maximum 4 riders per gate. To ensure physically distancing can be maintained there will be limited gates being used for practices and races. Eg 2, 4, 6, 8
  • Coaches will wear a mask where physically distancing cannot be maintained


Racing Etiquette:

  • Sneeze or cough into your elbow
  • No spitting or clearing of nasal passages


Exiting the Park:

  • Riders are expected to leave the BMX park immediately after their session has finished
  • Riders are asked to sanitize their hands as they leave the BMX Park
  • Riders and parents/guardians are asked not to socialize in the parking areas, parents/guardians will find an appropriate physically distanced space to wait for your rider(s)


5: Providing First Aid

  • The corner official will first attend the downed rider and be wearing all appropriate PPE: glasses/shield, gloves and a mask
  • Corner official volunteer will assess rider and encourage the rider to get up on their own
  • Once up and if any injury at all is suspected the rider will be directed to their parent outside of the park to obtain care from their parent/guardian
  • If the rider is unable to get up on their own the volunteer First Aid Attendant who will be wearing full PPE will complete an initial first aid assessment
  • If further care is required, BC Ambulance will be called, and the park will be vacated of other riders until safe to return


BMX Vernon Illness Policy and Policies for COVID 19


  • Our policies ensure that participants and others showing symptoms of COVID-19 are prohibited from participating in sport activities
  • Anyone who has had symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 10 days. Symptoms include fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and new muscle aches or headache.
  • Anyone directed by Public Health to self-isolate.
  • Anyone who has arrived from outside of Canada or who has had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case must self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms.
  • Our policy addresses individuals who may start to feel ill while participating. It includes the following:
    • Instruct the rider/volunteer/coaches to go straight home. [Consult the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool, or call 811 for further guidance related to testing and self-isolation.]
    • Sick riders/volunteers/coaches should report to first aid (or designated individual), even with mild symptoms.
    • Sick riders/volunteers/coaches should be asked to wash or sanitize their hands, provided with a mask, and isolate
    • If the riders/volunteers/coaches becomes severely ill (e.g., difficulty breathing, chest pain), call 911. Clean and disinfect any surfaces that the ill participant has come into contact with
    • Policy regarding COVID cases or possible exposures
    • Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 are STRICTLY prohibited from entering the BMX Park
  • Park cleaning where required will be completed regularly as per the health code and City of Vernon regulations
  • Should any rider, family member, or coach suspect they have contracted COVID-19 they MUST report their illness to The President of the Vernon BMX Club and the COVID Liaison.
  • If any riders/volunteers/coaches report contraction of COVID-19, everyone in that riding group must self-isolate for 14 days
  • 3m physical distancing required at all times while riding on the track.
