PRESS RELEASE

USA BMX Red River Nationals Arrive in Grand Forks for a Weekend of High-Level BMX Competition

Red River BMX welcomes riders July 17-19 as athletes battle for valuable points and a stronger position in the pursuit of a USA BMX national title.

TULSA, Okla. (July 13, 2026)—Red River BMX will welcome athletes from across the country July 17-19 for the Red River Nationals, as Grand Forks serves as the next stop in the 2026 USA BMX National Series. Hundreds of riders will compete in three days of racing, chasing critical championship points and national rankings. Fans and families are invited to experience the excitement of BMX firsthand while celebrating the passion and community that define the sport.

The Red River Nationals mark stop no.20 of the 2026 USA BMX National Series. The three-day BMX competition will be held at Red River BMX at 1490 S 42nd St in Grand Forks. Races begin at 1 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

"We're incredibly excited to welcome riders and families from across North America back to Grand Forks for the Red River Nationals,” said Danny Weigel, track operator at Red River BMX. “Over the past year, our volunteers, sponsors and community partners have invested countless hours into transforming our facility. From a completely new registration and concessions building to a rebuilt start hill, new ProGate system, improved track surface and an enhanced spectator experience, this has truly been a community effort.”

Beyond the competition on the track and preparation for the event, Weigel shared his excitement for the lasting impact the Red River Nationals will have on athletes, families and the Grand Forks community.

“What I'm looking forward to most is showcasing not only one of the premier BMX facilities in the country, but also the incredible hospitality of the Grand Forks community. Seeing thousands of athletes and families experience everything our city has to offer while creating lifelong memories at Hugo's Raceway is something we're extremely proud of.”

A national title is not decided at a single finish line -- it is earned through consistency at every race along the way. The Red River Nationals serves as a stop in the broader USA BMX National Series, welcoming riders from across the country as they compete for championship points and position in the national rankings. From the opening gate drop to the final sprint, athletes will be fighting for every advantage as they continue their pursuit of a coveted USA BMX national championship.

“As Executive Director of Visit Greater Grand Forks, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome USA BMX athletes, coaches, families and fans from across the country to our community for the Red River Nationals at Hugo’s Raceway, July 17–19,” said Julie Rygg, executive director at Visit Greater Grand Forks. “This event showcases not only world-class competition, but also the warm hospitality, unique attractions and vibrant local businesses that make Greater Grand Forks such a special place to visit. We deeply value the positive impact USA BMX brings to our region, as this same event in 2024 generated an estimated $680,000 in economic impact, and we are grateful for the opportunity to once again host USA BMX.”

Grand Forks offers visitors outdoor adventure, local flavor and community experiences that showcase the spirit of eastern North Dakota. From exploring the scenic Greenway along the Red River to discovering the city’s vibrant downtown, local breweries and cultural landmarks like the North Dakota Museum of Art, BMX families and fans can experience the best of Grand Forks while enjoying a weekend of championship racing. About USA BMX

Established as the American Bicycle Association in 1977 and headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, ABA is the nation’s largest cycling organization with more than 70,000 members with combined racing and freestyle events at more than 300 sanctioned BMX tracks across the United States and Canada. ABA empowers and elevates the early stages of bicycle development by creating opportunities through facility development, programs, and national events. As a result, ABA has developed a structured blueprint. A cyclist can progress from humble beginnings on a balance bike to becoming a BMX Olympian by establishing these roots.

Through STEAM, scholarships, freestyle amateur events, the national series, the Olympics and new facilities built across the United States, these four pillars under the USA BMX organization will impact young riders and families: USA BMX Foundation, USA BMX Freestyle, USA BMX Racing and ABA Ethos.
