USA BMX Brings New Racing Destination to Aztec, NM Following Lease Approval

Designed to inspire the next generation of riders, the Aztec Riverside BMX track will create a dedicated space for youth development, competition and community connection in Northwest New Mexico.

TULSA, Okla. (July 21, 2026)—USA BMX is bringing a new chapter of BMX racing to Northwest New Mexico with the approval of a new sanctioned track in Aztec. Backed by a newly approved lease with the City of Aztec that was approved by the Aztec City Council on June 23, the project at Aztec Riverside Park is moving into the fundraising and development phase and will create a year-round destination where riders of all ages can race, learn and build a stronger BMX community in the heart of the Four Corners region.

At the heart of the Aztec Riverside BMX project is its commitment to the next generation of riders. For Rochelle and Justin Brown, who are leading the effort to bring the track to life, the reason behind it has always been the same: it’s for the kids. 

“About a year ago, we were sharing thoughts with friends about how nice it would be to have a closer BMX track for our community,” said Rochelle Brown. “Seeing how many people rallied behind that idea and are excited about the project has been incredible. From local families to riders and tracks throughout New Mexico and Colorado, the support has shown us how much this means to everyone.”

The Aztec Riverside BMX project continues to make progress with dirt already secured and being transported to the site. Located in a region where cycling and outdoor recreation are deeply woven into the community, the new USA BMX-sanctioned track will build on the existing BMX culture throughout the Four Corners area. Aztec Riverside BMX will be the third USA BMX-sanctioned track in New Mexico.

Driven by strong community support and collaboration across the Four Corners region, the project team is grateful for the partnership of the City of Aztec, which provided the lease opportunity at Aztec Riverside Park and helped make the vision a reality. Additional support from Mesa Sand and Gravel and San Juan County has helped move the project forward by providing the dirt needed for construction. Located within one of Aztec’s most active recreational spaces, the new track will add another destination for outdoor recreation and expand opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the sport.

According to USA BMX Director of Business Development Justin Travis, the Aztec Riverside BMX project represents an important step in expanding access to BMX racing throughout New Mexico while creating a lasting gathering place. As the project moves forward, the new sanctioned track will strengthen the region’s BMX network and provide a venue for future events that bring athletes and visitors to the Four Corners region.

“Every new track creates opportunities that extend well beyond the starting gate,” said Travis. “The support we’ve seen from the Aztec community has been incredible from the very beginning, and we’re excited to work alongside local leaders and neighboring tracks in New Mexico and Colorado to bring this vision to life. Once complete, Aztec Riverside BMX will be a place where young riders find their passion for the sport and where the Aztec community can share what makes this region special.”
