With the Olympics in Los Angeles less than two years away, excitement is building as Canadian racers from across the country converge on Heritage Park in Chilliwack, BC, for the BMX Canada Grand National - The thrilling conclusion to a series that spanned the distance from Ontario to BC.
More than 700 competitors will gather at Heritage Park to chase seven National Championship titles and dozens of National Age Group crowns, going head-to-head on an exciting, purpose-built indoor BMX track inside the main arena.
The race format features more than 130 motos (groups), with riders competing in heats of up to eight, based on age and ability. The festival-style weekend is also a great opportunity to connect with friends, check out on-site vendors and team setups, and catch appearances from Olympic hopefuls.
Racers as young as two years old will take to the track on strider bikes, with divisions spanning a wide range of ages and skill levels. At the top of the field is Superclass — the premier category, featuring prize money for the top men’s and women’s finishers.
The feature event, Superclass Saturday, takes place Saturday evening from 5–7pm and is free for fans and spectators. The battle for the Superclass titles will take centre stage, alongside a Future’s Showdown for 13–16-year-olds and a classic Trophy Dash for 11-12 year-olds, with prizes and entertainment throughout the evening.
Admission is free for spectators, with racing taking place from Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11. The event is sanctioned by BMX Canada and supported by Tourism Chilliwack, Impact Canopy, Tangent Products, and Fly Racing. A full schedule is available on the BMX Canada Facebook page here.
For BMX Canada licensed riders who have yet to experience a National event, a BOGO (Buy One, Get One) offer is available to help more participants get involved. Full details can be found here: https://www.bmxcanada.org/getone.
